Historical Information
Brunswick County was named for the duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg, one of the German possessions of George I. It was formed in 1720 from Prince George County, but, because of the sparse population, county government was not organized until 1732. In the latter year Brunswick County was enlarged by the addition of parts of Surry and Isle of Wight Counties.
Created in 1720 (county government established in June 1732). Most loose records prior to 1781 are missing.Pre-1781 volumes that record deeds, court orders, and wills exist.
Scope and Content
Brunswick County (Va.) Land Grants, 1726-1794. The collection contains three land grants, as follows: to Nathaniel Harrison, 1727 July 7; to Jonathan Richardson, 1794 Aug. 21; and to William Baugh, Assignee of Edmund Browder, who was Assignee of Robert Walker, 1784 June 1.
