The Robert Alonzo Brock Collection was filmed by The Huntington Library in cooperation with The Library of Virginia with funding provided by The Library of Virginia Foundation with the support of The Roller-Bottimore Foundation and The Robins Foundation. Microfilm received 15 April 2004.

Historical Information

Braxton County (West) Virginia was named for Carter Braxton, one of Virginia's signers of the Declaration of Independence. It was created in 1836 from Lewis and Nicholas Counties, and part of Randolph County was added in 1849. Braxton County was one of the fifty western Virginia counties to form the state of West Virginia in 1863.

Scope and Content

Braxton County (West) Virginia Land Grants, 1861-1862. The collection contains 5 land grants, as follows: to M. P. Haymond, 1862 Oct. 1; to French F. Singleton, 1862 Sept. 1; and three to William Rose, 1861 Feb. 1.
