This item came to the Library of Virginia in shipments of court papers from Lancaster County.
Lancaster County (Va.) Public Buildings and Grounds, 1787-1937. The materials consists of accounts, bonds, claims, orders,
plans, reports, and specifications related to county buildings and public space. Included are claims and accounts for repairs
to buildings, maintenance, improvements of, and appurtenances for county-owned structures and public grounds, 1789-1923. The
range of projects includes fencing for the public square, public privies, painting, building furniture, and the like. The
series also consists of orders, reports, bonds, and specifications for the courthouse, clerk's office, jail, alms house, school
building, and lighthouse, 1787-1937. Also included are two floor plans for the courthouse showing the courtroom layout and
some fixtures. Commissioners' reports on the condition of public buildings, especially the jail, are also contained in this
series.
