The Life family associated with these records emigrated from Pennsylvania to what is now Highland County, Virginia between
1782 to 1786. John Life was born in Pennsylvania in 1770. He was a farmer and blacksmith and married Barbara Wimer (1781-1865)
in 1810. He moved to Lewis County, West Virginia and died on 10 August 1856. One of his brothers, Samuel Life, was born in
1792 and lived in Highland County his entire life. He worked as a farmer and married Ann Waybright (1795-?). Samuel's son,
John Life, was born in 1820 in Highland County. He was a mechanic and married Elizabeth Colaw. John moved to Tama County,
Iowa where his died in 1903.
