Acquisition Information
These items came to the Library of Virginia in a transfer of court papers from Norfolk County.
Depositions and exhibits, 1764, whose purpose was to prove Michael Herrick's claim to being a legitimate heir of John Watkins
so that he could inherit Watkins' property in Norfolk County. They provide evidence to Herrick's familial relationship to
John Watkins going back several generations. Individuals deposed include Herrick himself, Daniel Taylor, and Charlton Palmer.
Exhibits include christening records, marriage records, and burial records copied from the original records found in England
as well as a genealogical chart of the Watkins family. Additional surnames found in the records include Gables and Adams.
It was noted that Herrick was also spelled Henrick.
