Nelson County was formed from Amherst County in 1807. It was named for Governor Thomas Nelson, Jr.

Pages 173-226 of a copybook, 1833, that records the chancery suit Silas P. Vawter and wife and others versus James P. Rodgers and others heard in Nelson County Superior Court of Law and Chancery.
