The unidentified attorney practiced law in Frederick County during the early nineteenth century.
The ledger, 1806-1820, records the accounts of individual customers. Each account lists transactions in chronological order. Information found in accounts include date of transaction, services rendered, amount owed, amount paid, and form of payment. Payments made by cash, credit, or barter of items such as cloth and beef. Services rendered include legal representation in chancery, debt, and other suits; writing deeds; legal counsel; and payment of legal fees. Ledger is 461 pages.
