Biographical/Historical Information

Harry Flood Byrd (1887-1966) served as governor of Virginia from 1926-1930 and United States Senator from Virginia from 1933-1965.

Scope and Content Information

Press release, 18 December 1955, by Senator Harry Flood Byrd, in favor of a referendum calling for a constitutional convention to revise and amend Section 141 of the Virginia constitution. Section 141 concerned the appropriation of funds for educational purposes. The act was approved on 19 January 1956.
