Biographical/Historical Information

Lincoln Mosby (1865-1924) was born on 24 August 1865 in Virginia, the son of William and Harriett Mosby. His siblings included brothers William and Sidney (b. 1871). By 1880, the family had relocated to Montgomery County, Ohio. Lincoln Mosby later became a contractor and married Lillie Fietta Mumford of Clark County, Illinois. They lived in Wellington, Kansas, and had eight children, including daughter Irene Ethel Mosby, born on 18 September 1908. She married Dean Chilton on 3 January 1931, and had a daughter, Karen Dean Chilton, on 27 October 1931.

Scope and Content

Papers, 1903-2003 (bulk 1903-1931), of the Mosby family of Kansas and Ohio, including birth certificates, a marriage certificate, funeral program, and photographs. Also included are two letters, 1903 and 1912, discussing family illnesses, and another, 1916, recommending Lincoln Mosby (1865-1924) for contracting work. Other represented family members include Lincoln's brothers William and Sidney (b. 1871), wife Lillie Fietta Mumford Mosby, daughter Irene Mosby Chilton (1908- ) and granddaughter Karen Dean Chilton Smith-Peirce (1931- ). Several of the pages have been annotated by the donor.
