John Quincy Adams Nadenbousch Ledger, 1871-1891. Accession 23718e, Business records collection, The Library of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia.
Purchased from Joseph Kieffer Ruebush, Harrisonburg, Virginia, 7 September 1951.
John Quincy Adams Nadenbousch (1824-1892) organized and was captain of the Berkeley Border Guards, and served as a colonel in the Second Virginia Regiment during the Civil War. He rose to financial and political prominence after the war as the principal flour miller, distiller and realtor, and mayor of Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Ledger, 1871-1891, records entries for sale, rent, and repair of real estate owned by Nadenbousch, including the Grand Central Hotel in Martinsburg, West Virginia. The ledger also includes stock accounts, lists of judgments in the Berkeley County Circuit Court, and an 1874 commissioner's report regarding George A. Hamill's estate, which indicated that Nadenbousch was the administrator. Pages 121 to 329 are blank.
