Biographical/Historical Information

James Kersey and Charles T. Davis were general contractors in Richmond, Virginia, whose firm appears to have been in operation from ca. 1859-1875.

Scope and Content Information

Business records, 1858-1910, including accounts, checks, receipts, and licenses. A draft of a contract between J.B. Watkins and Kersey and Davis in 1866 for the construction of a house on the northwest corner of Seventh and Leigh streets is also included. Charles T. Davis' personal papers include among other items school accounts with Herbert P. Lefebvre and the Richmond Female Institute, certificates of membership in the Virginia Mechanics' Institute, membership receipts from the First Baptist Church, and a receipt of premiums from the Lynchburg Hose and Fire Insurance Company for the insurance of a slave.
