Samuel Godwin (b. 1687), son of Thomas and Martha Bridger Godwin of Nansemond County, Virginia, was married to Mary Jossy (1696-1720), daughter of James Jossy, on 19 June 1711. On 19 December 1721 Samuel Godwin married Catharine Scott. Samuel Godwin, Jr. was born 29 March 1712.
Memorandum book, 1705-1804, of Samuel Godwin (b. 1687) of Nansemond County, Virginia. Recorded are entries for the shipment of tobacco and for the transportation of goods by Samuel Godwin. The majority of entries are for the period 1715-1721.
A record of births, deaths, and marriages of the family of Samuel Godwin appears at the middle of the volume. Records of the births of the children of Frederick George during the years 1768 through 1772 are also recorded. A list of slave births for the period 1770 to 1802 appears at the end of the volume. Later entries may have been recorded by Samuel Godwin, Jr. (b. 1712).
