William Lewis Day was born 20 July 1830, in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. He was elected lieutenant of Company D, 30th Virginia Infantry, rising to the rank of captain. Day resigned from his command 3 February 1863, and later joined Company E, 9th Virginia Cavalry. After the war, Day became a successful farmer in Spotsylvania County. He married Fannie W. Andrews (b. 1861) 12 March 1890. Day died 8 June 1897.
