Samuel F. McGill was born about 1815. He was among a group of free blacks who arrived in Liberia in 1827. McGilll apparently served as an agent for the American Colonization Society in helping others relocate to Liberia.
Letter, 12 June 1855, from Samuel F. McGill in Monrovia, Liberia, to Frederick Brnasford concerning the arrival of immigrants, including the Wills family, to Liberia. McGill offers suggestions as to what to expect upon arrival. He also includes the cost of building materials and lumber in Monrovia.
