Historical Information

previous hit Loudoun  next hit previous hit County  next hit was named for John Campbell, fourth earl of previous hit Loudoun  next hit, who was commander of British forces in North America during the early portion of the French and Indian War and governor of Virginia from 1756 to 1759. It was formed from Fairfax previous hit County  next hit in 1757.

Waterford was founded about 1733 by Amos Janney, a Quaker from Bucks previous hit County  next hit, Pennsylvania. Known as Janney's Mill until the 1780s, the early commercial center then became the village of Waterford. It was officially incorporated by an act of the Virginia General Assembly in 1836. Waterford was the second largest town in previous hit Loudoun  next hit previous hit County  next hit prior to the Civil War. Waterford unincorprated in 1936.

Information recorded includes the boundaries of the township, division of the township into road districts, appointment and election of officals, establishment of rates allowed for work on sidewalks and street lamps, appointment of election judges, reports and accounts allowed of road overseers, establishment of township levy and rates, and orders to collect delinquent taxes.
