Biographical/Historical Information
Henry
William Baker was born on 8 December 1760, the son of
Heinrich and Maria Elizabeth Fink Baker of Winchester,
Virginia. He married Catherine
Miller
of Fredericktown,
Maryland, on 5 September 1786. The couple reared several
children including George W. Baker, whose vital statistics
have yet to be determined.
Henry
Baker died on 21 December
1837. Catherine Baker died half a year later on 14 July 1838.
Her will was proven 8 August 1838 and is found in Frederick
County Will Book 20, pp. 155-156. The married couple was
interred side by side in Mount Hebron Cemetery in
Winchester.
Scope and Content Information
Ledger, 1838, containing records and accounts relevant to
the estate settlements of Henry
W. Baker (1760-1838) and his
wife Catherine Baker (1768-1838), both of Winchester,
Frederick County, Virginia. Includes copies of court orders,
itemized accounts of estate appraisements and sales, receipts,
and a Bible record of four slaves owned by the Baker family
(names and ages included). Also contains a list, 16 January
1862, of George W. Baker's property taxed for the War Tax
(Virginia county or township undetermined). Of the 170 pages
in the ledger, 122 are blank. Some of the information in this
ledger is also found in Frederick County Will Book 20, pp.
151-162.
