Biographical Information
Since the 1960s Ross De Witt Netherton has worked alongside his wife, Ann Rohrke (or "Nan") Netherton, to preserve and record the history of Northern Virginia. Ross Netherton studied law at the University of Chicago and, in addition to engaging in historic preservation, has embarked on a long career teaching law and conducting legal research in academia, private industry, federal administrative offices, and Congressional study commissions. The materials in this collection derive from Netherton's research on transportation in Northern Virginia, which resulted in several publications, including Control of Highway Access and Braddock's Campaign and the Potomac Route to the West.
Scope and Content
This collection contains materials on several aspects of highway planning from design and expense to noise and environmental standards. Materials include books, brochures, design proposals, maps, and numerous reports issued by the Federal Highway Administration and the National Research Council's Transportation Research Board.
