Historical and Biographical Information
Howard B. Marler was born on November 4, 1921 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. In 1940 he moved to Washington D.C. and worked at Hoover Field for Western Union and later at a Hot Shoppes restaurant. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Alexandria, worked for the Navy Yard, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He started his professional photography business Photos By Marler in the Washington DC-area in the 1950s. In the course of his career, he developed expertise in detailed aerial photographs.
Marler was involved in several community organizations including the Alexandria Sunrise Optimist Club, the Brookland/Bush Hill Civic Association and helped establish the Mount Vernon Lee Chamber of Commerce.
Marler joined the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce in 1979. The Chamber, founded in 1925, is a membership organization for businesses that provides networking and business development opportunities and advocates for pro-business positions. In 1979, the Fairfax County Chamber was the largest chapter in Northern Virginia with 1,700 members.
Howard Marler died on February 21, 2005.
