Historical and Biographical Information

Dr. Frank William Huddleson was born on February 26, 1867 in Woodstock, Virginia. His father, John Huddleson, was a Captain in the Confederate army, and his grandfather, Jonathan Huddleson, was a congressman. In 1878, the family moved to Cass County, Missouri. Frank married Nellie M. Moore at Pleasant Hill, Missouri in 1891.

Huddleson graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 1894 and served as head clerk at James C. Perry’s drugstore in Philadelphia for two years. In 1896, he set up his own drug store in Washington D.C. at the corner of 14th Street and Rhode Island Avenue. A fire damaged the pharmacy on November 18, 1899, causing $2,500 worth of damage. Ill health forced him to close in 1904 and relocate to Herndon, Virginia where he opened another drug store and operated a dairy farm. In December 1916, he and his family moved to Fairfax Court House where he operated a stock farm specializing in Guernsey cattle.

In November 1915, Huddleson was elected Treasurer of Fairfax County, a position he retained for 22 years before ill health forced him to resign in December 1937. Huddleson also served as directors of the National Bank of Herndon, the National Bank of Fairfax, and the National Bank of Vienna. He was also prominent in many local Masonic circles. He died at his home after a long illness on January 14, 1939.
