Biographical/Historical Information
John Bankhead Magruder (May 1, 1807 – February 19, 1871), a native of Port Royal, VA, submitted this requisition during his time as a general for the Confederate Army. Magruder had previously served in the US Army, and would later serve with the Imperial Mexican Army. He is known for his efforts in the 1862 Peninsula Campaign and in successfully defending Galveston, Texas, against the Union Army and Navy early in 1863.
Scope and Content
Special requisition No. 40 for steel pens, inkstands, envelopes, papers and wafers for the use of Magruder and his staff. Materials issued by R{obert} J. Morrison at Williamsburg, {Va.} on 10 July 1861. Printed form with manuscript insertions.
