Biographical/Historical Information

Patrick Henry was born May 29, 1736 in Hanover County, Virginia. He served in the Virginia House of Burgesses and the Continental Congress and was a five term governor of Virginia. Henry is well known for his "Give me liberty or give me death!" speech. He died June 6, 1799 at Red Hill Plantation, Virginia.

Scope and Content

Letter notifying the County Lieutenant that prisoners of war are en route "under the care of Major Jos[eph] Holmes" and authorizing mobilization of militia to guard them.
