The Virginia General Assembly is the legislative body of the Commonwealth of
Virginia. Its existence dates from the establishment of the House of Burgesses at
Jamestown in 1619. It became the General Assembly in 1776 with the ratification of
the Virginia Constitution.
Manuscript copy of acts passed at a General Assembly at the Capitol in Williamsburg,
Virginia, 23 October 1705-June 1706 in an attempt begun in 1699 to revise the laws
then in force. Acts concern ports and towns, the Capitol and Williamsburg, titles to
town lands, tobacco and size and tare (weight) of tobacco hogsheads, ships sailing
in contempt of embargoes, marriage and slavery. Incomplete and imperfect.
