Biographical Information

The VA Bureau of Vital Statistics had records of births and deaths for the Virginia State Board of Health. This collection is mostly versions of Form Vs. No. 18 and has some of No. 12. The Magisterial District of Rivanna was District Number 11A and encompassed part of Albemarle County to the Northeast.

Scope and Content

5 books filled with Certificates of Births in Albemarle County from 1917 to 1938, including information of child, father, mother, and attending physician or midwife.

5 books filled with Certificates of Deaths in Albemarle County from 1918 to 1936, including place of death, personal and statistical particulars, medical certificate of death, burial/cremation information, and the undertaker. Cases of interest include Spanish Influenza Pandemic, dying from old age at 102, homicide, suicide, railroad accidents, and deaths ruled of natural causes by jurors.
