The processing, arrangement, and description of the David S. Rice Family Papers commenced and was completed in May 2009.
David S. Rice, the son of Thomas Rice, was born in Rockingham County, Virginia on July 12, 1833. He married Tabitha Denton (1831-1902) on December 23, 1855. (Tabitha, born in Rockbridge County, Virginia, was the daughter of Benjamin and Tabitha Ann Jackson Denton.) The couple lived and farmed in Rockingham County and had five children: Samuel L., Martha, James E. B., Mary Virginia, and Tabitha. David S. Rice died on January 8, 1878.
This collection contains papers relating to David S. Rice of Rockingham County, Virginia and his family. Included are three deeds, all for lands in Rockingham County: Martha Rice to David Rice (1857), Samuel & Elizabeth Funk to David S. Rice heirs (1882), and S. L. & J. E. B. Rice to G. W. & Mary Virginia Vanscoy (1894). The collection also includes three sheets, possibly removed from family Bibles, containing genealogical data on David and Tabitha Rice and their children.
