The Kron Botanical Cards were donated to Special Collections and University Archives in 1995.
The processing and description of the Kron Botanical Cards commenced and was completed in October, 2023.
Adelaide (1828-1910) and Elizabeth (1831-1896) Kron, daughters of Francis J. and Mary Catherine Delamothe Kron, were born in Montgomery County, North Carolina, and educated at St. Mary's School in Raleigh. Avid amateur botanists, they painted and took notes on wildflower specimens found in the area of their home in the Uwharrie Mountains near the Yadkin River. Adelaide and Elizabeth Kron are buried in Kron Family Cemetery, Stanly County, North Carolina.
This collection contains reproductions of eight botanical illustrations of wildflower specimens found near the Yadkin River in North Carolina, painted in the 19th century by Adelaide and Elizabeth Kron and reprinted in stationery card form by the Albemarle [North Carolina] Council of Garden Clubs and the Kron Trust. The collection includes two sets of eight cards (one set a duplicate of the other), a set of stationery envelopes, and a sheet with a captioned photograph of the Kron House at Morrow Mountain State Park, North Carolina.
