Founded by William Black in 1797, the Town of Blacksburg in Montgomery County, Virginia, was established by the Virginia Legislature in 1798. The town was incorporated in 1871.
Virginia Tech Special Collections and University Archives created the Blacksburg Bicentennial digital exhibit in 1998 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the town.
The Town of Blacksburg, [Virginia], Collection consists of a variety of Blacksburg town documents and reports collected by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University librarians. Materials include financial statements (1927-1951), a typescript annual report (1954), a population study (1944), Chamber of Commerce brochures, By-Laws and Ordinance of Blacksburg (1885), and information on elections (1936-1968).
