It is possible that Carter Braxton, the author of the letters, is a descendent of Carter Braxton, who signed the Declaration of Independence. The letter was written from Chericoke, which is the plantation built by Carter Braxton and remains in the family today.
The collection contains copies of four letters written by Carter Braxton from Chericoke in King William County, Virginia, to Dr. C. C. Cocke of Fluvanna County, Virginia. The letters mention estates, debts, and the McCormick Reaper.
