Henry I. Mullins, the son of James H. and Lucinda Bowling Mullins, was born in Kentucky on February 7, 1874. He appears in the Letcher County, Kentucky home of his father in the 1880 census. In 1893, Mullins married Mattie Williams (1877-1963). The couple would have at least six children and continue through 1920 to live in Letcher County, where they engaged in farming. A notation in Mullins' account book notes that he started business in Pound (Wise County), Virginia in 1921. Henry I. Mullins died on March 30, 1951, and is buried in the Bolling Cemetery of Pound, Virginia.
This collection consists of a single account book maintained by Henry I. Mullins, the proprietor of a general mercantile store in Wise County, Virginia. The volume contains entries detailing customer names, goods purchased, and prices for 1921. Commencing in 1923, the entries seem to record only the expenses of the Jones and Combs partnership. The entries end in 1924.
