Montgomery County was formed in 1776 from Fincastle County. Part of Botetourt County was added in 1789 and part of Pulaski County was added in 1842.
Montgomery County (Va.) Depositions, Vineyard's Adm. v. Covey, etc., 1841. Consists of depositions of Asa Hall and John Hawley pertaining to the sale of slaves belonging to the estate of Jeremy Pates in Montgomery County in 1837. The depositions were taken for the chancery suit, Adm. of Nancy Vineyard v. Daniel B. Covey and his wife, Rebecca; Peter Hawley and his wife, Frances; Lewis Hawley and his wife, Sarah; and John Hawley and his wife, Catharine.
Originals refiled with suit papers in Montgomery County Chancery Cause 1844-001 Admr of Nancy Vineyard vs. Daniel B. Covey and wife etc.
