Lewis George. Letter, 27 May 1844. Accession 38451, Local Government Records Collection, The Library of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia.
Transfer from Caroline County Clerk of Court, Bowling Green, Virginia.
Lewis George was born on 26 April 1779. He was the son of John Dudley George. He married Agnes Wilson (1782-1844) on 26 December 1799. They resided in Caroline County, Virginia. George died on 5 May 1847.
Letter, dated 27 May 1844, from Lewis George (1779-1847) of Caroline County, Virginia, to Lewis Hill (ca. 1805-1881) of Richmond, Virginia, concerning the age of the mother of Emanuel Boulware, and whether she was born free. George gives his opinions based on his knowledge of issues surrounding the estate of John Peatross, and writes that Peatross had freed his slaves before circa 1805, and that a suit was brought against his estate and the court ruled that his slaves were free. This accession is part of the Caroline County Circuit Court records.
