Biographical Information
The Brewer family were residents of Rockingham County, Virginia. Adam H. Brewer was born on 5 September 1822. He was a merchant and served as constable and deputy sheriff. He married Jane E. Rhodes (1830-1904). Adam H. Brewer died on 2 October 1905 and is buried in Keezletown Cemetery. His son, Scott William Brewer was born on 26 August 1858. He was a physician. Dr. Brewer married Flemma Swank (1867-1943). He died in 1927.
Scope and Content
Papers, 1847-1983, of the Brewer family of Rockingham County, Virginia, namely Adam H. Brewer (1822-1905) and his son Dr. Scott W. Brewer (1858-1927). The collection contains clippings, correspondence, poetry, recipes, school exercises, scrapbook, stamp collection, teacher's register from Greenwood School in Albemarle County, and information on the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. There is a good deal of material related to Adam H. Brewer's duties as constable, including executions and receipts for claims due various individuals, lists of claims collected and returned, and memorandum and receipt books.
