Scope and Content
Research files, 1943-1980, regarding the Fulgham-Fulghum family in America, collected by James Hooks Fulghum, Sr., of Roanoke, Virginia. The papers focus on the descendants of Anthony Fulgham (1675-1727) of Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Includes Bible records, clippings, correspondence, genealogical notes, manuscripts, notebooks, and research files. The files have been indexed by Robert S. Fulghum, son of James Hooks Fulghum. Many of the names in the files have identification numbers which correlate to a Fulghum family database collected for the Fulgham-Fulghum Family National Association.
Of note, are several notebooks containing family group sheets, genealogical charts, newspaper clippings, obituaries, and photographs. Includes photographs of family members, coat of arms, and family gravestones. The notebooks were compiled c. 1965 and contain full name indexes. Includes abstracts from court records, deed books, order books, marriage records, and wills. The correspondence, 1943-1980, includes letters written between James Hooks Fulghum and other Fulghum family researchers. An index is included for the letters consisting of authors name, date written, and subject, and the letters are arranged according to the index. Also includes several versions of "American Family Fulgham", written by James Hooks Fulghum.
