Biographical Information

John Reynoldson Butterworth was born 13 April 1903 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, to Abner Goode Butterworth (1876-1950) and Julia Harris Butterworth (1880-1976). Butterworth collected several documents relating to Dinwiddie County's history. He died 26 August 1987 in Petersburg, Virginia.

Dinwiddie County records, 1810-1894, collected by John Reynoldson Butterworth (1903-1987) of Dinwiddie County, Virginia, consisting of accounts, including one with the Commonwealth of Virginia; correspondence to Isaac Roney (1800-1870) of Dinwiddie County concerning personal and business matters; deeds for property in Dinwiddie County and for a release from claims; judicial records, including a declaration and answers, a decree, a judgment, and writs, from Dinwiddie County; and promissory notes to Isaac Roney as administrator of Rebecca Roney, including miscellaneous notes.
