Scope and Content Information
This ledger of the Augusta County farmer Samuel Bell
records purchase and sale of cattle and farm products, sale of
hides, and sale of wheat, flour, and butter shipped to
Richmond. Also recorded are estate accounts, as well as an
account of the hiring of slaves belonging to the estate,
1852-1853.
Biographical/Historical Information
Samuel H. Bell (b. 1813), of Augusta County, Virginia, was
a farmer and raised and butchered cattles and hogs with
partner Francis Bell.
